Welcome to the tour. I’ll be your guide, Jorel. Let’s be off.

School is out for the summer, and Bailey Day has graduated from her community college. Hip hip hooray! She is ready to get a LOT of things done during the summer before she takes the next step in her educational career, so let’s all send some good workflow vibes her way. And as I promised in a previous blog post, we’re going to take a look back at all of the things Bailey Day illustrated for her college Drawing class. Let’s browse the art gallery together. Shall we?

Sketch Study Squares

Bailey Day used these 2×2 in. squares to experiment with her various drawing pens. Very interesting stuff.

Palm Tree Setting

Wow. Look at all those lines. We got curved lines, straight lines, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling; so much line variety!

Shading Exercise

Have you ever seen such perfectly proportioned spheres and prisms?

A Skull-tastic Still Life

Seems like all of that shading exercise paid off. I know it feels as if you could reach right through your screen and grasp the skull in your hand, maybe recite some Hamlet verses with it, but surprisingly, this is nothing but digitalized charcoal on paper! Hyperrealism at its finest, I know. It looks so real!

Accurate and Beautiful

Bailey Day wanted to refrain from showing her completed self portrait, as it’s just not as good as the work-in-progress. Check out this masterpiece!

Jorel’s Self Portrait

I know this is Bailey Day’s art gallery, but I couldn’t help wanting to show off at least one of my drawings that I made for the class. Look! It’s me, Jorel! Not too shabby of a charcoal drawing if I do say so myself.

Life in Quarantine

Bailey Day’s final project for her Drawing class. She took everything she learned and created a dramatic scene. Notice all of the variety between light and dark values and the depth that she is able to accomplish within this piece. I can only think of one word to describe this drawing: Art. (‘chef’s kiss’)

Life in Quarantine

Those were all of Bailey Day’s drawings from her Drawing class, but Bailey Day didn’t stop there, as usual. She went on to try her hand at Illustration, another class available at her college where she could practice her artistic mediums! The tour isn’t over yet, folks! Let’s keep moving!

Gotta Buy Them All

A commentary on the tragic state of the Pokémon card trade. Seriously, who would pay thousands of dollars for a square of shiny cardboard? Well don’t tempt me! I guess we’ll all regret that we didn’t stock up on the things when Pokémon cards eventually become the new currency of the world, rendering all other forms of money obsolete. What a future that would be, huh?

Toyland

You should know by now what’s going to happen next, right? Correct! I’m going to advertise Bailey Day’s story The Amazing Imagination Machine! You can purchase it and read it RIGHT NOW on Amazon by following the link! There’s always a chance that someone is reading this blog post that hasn’t read the book yet, so if you’re one of those people, you know what to do! Bailey Day actually intended this to be an album cover for a song. A song that I myself wrote! What? Did you forget? Not only am I the awesome manager of this blog and a great tour guide, but I’m also a somewhat talented musician. You can listen to the song that inspired this album cover right here. It’s a spooky jaunt that embodies the maniacal spirit of the Toy Master! But that’s all I’m going to say! We need to keep this place spoiler-free, just in case.

Squeamish Skirts

So for this Illustration assignment, Bailey Day was tasked with creating fashion designs, and you know she just had to add her own monstrous twist to it. And ladies, let me just declare that a new fashion icon has been born. I’d wear these. Uh. . .then again. . .

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This is my personal favorite. Bailey Day’s reimagining of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You know, the classic children’s story? But this is more like The Very Hungry Caterpillar That Just Wouldn’t Move Out. I love the combination of magazine cutouts and construction paper. So much attention to detail. Also kids, remember to eat your fruits and vegetables and exercise regularly.

Cryptid Bedroom Set

Now the first thing I think about when analyzing this next set of illustrations is bedroom furnishings. Who wouldn’t want to sleep in a Bigfoot bed with a Chupacabra pillow or stare out a window with Loch Ness monster curtains? Well, maybe people who hate to have fun. Or folklore monsters. Or both. . .

Alien Art Show Poster

And finally the pièce de résistance. A poster for her college’s art show. She tried her hand at drawing digitally this time around, and I’d say it was a great success. This would certainly grab my attention if I saw it hanging up in a hallway somewhere? “An art show? I’m totally there!”

Well, that’s the end of the tour. Thank you all for visiting Bailey Day’s art gallery. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, as well as all of the art. And don’t worry! If I know anything about Bailey Day (which I do), there’s definitely more to come. Exits are at the top of your screens. Just look for the ‘X’.

This has been your tour guide, Jorel. Have a good summer, all you wonderful people. But don’t forget to apply sunscreen as necessary and take proper precautions against the heat. It’s going to be a scorcher!

Stay healthy, everybody.
